Bill to Ban Metal Bats Moves Forward in State Legislature

Bill A-3388 introduced by Assemblyman Patrick Deignan Jr. (Middlesex-D) would prohibit the use of metal bats by public and non-public schools and any youth serving organizations for players under 18 years of age. The bill has cleared the committee level and will now await action on the assembly floor. The bill will be called Steven's Law, if passed, in honor of Steven Domalewski, 13 of Wayne. Steven remains hospitalized after being struck with a batted ball while pitching in a PAL game in June, 2006. The state's high school would not be effected by the ban until the spring of 2008 if the bill becomes law.
